I've been playing with this new metaphor about my towering to-be-read piles (both physical books and digital audiobooks), and thinking about how we view wine.
People stock up on wine.
They buy a particularly great vintage and save it for just the right occasion.
They have elaborate wine racks, sometimes wine cellars or fancy wine rooms, and I don't think they feel guilty about the bottles they haven't gotten to yet.
Those bottles are just getting better as they wait. And folks enjoy anticipating uncorking the special ones.

Why don't we think of the books in our to-be-read piles in the same way?
I just haven't gotten around to reading that book yet, but I look forward to just the right occasion to open it up and be swept away...
For 2025, how about we get rid of the unhelpful judgement about books not yet read, and think of our bookshelves like a wine cellar -- a vast trove of book wealth, waiting to be savored.

Another plus for books is you can re-read them! (You can't really re-drink a bottle of wine.)
Cheers to books still to be read!
Illustrate, Translate, Write, and Read On,
Lee
